The Growing Threat of Cargo Theft
Cargo theft remains one of the main issues affecting the logistics chain in Mexico. In the first eight months of 2024, 14,950 thefts were recorded nationwide, representing an increase of 5.2% compared to the same period last year.
This rise not only reflects the persistence of this crime but also an increase in the level of violence in the assaults, with 88% of thefts carried out violently.
The Central region continues to concentrate the majority of incidents, with 65% of the cases, with State of Mexico, Puebla and Guanauato being the most affected states.

General Cargo Theft Statistics
Almost 88% of cargo thefts were made while trucks were in transit, followed by 9% of robberies committed while the tractor-trailer was parked somewhere.
Days with the highest incidence: The thefts primarily occur from Monday to Friday, accounting for 82% of the incidents. Tuesdays and Thursdays were the most dangerous days.
High-risk time: Between 00:00 hrs and 06:00 hrs, with 34% of the thefts occurring during this period.
